About SouthWest Airlines

Southwest Airlines is the major airline in the United States based on servicing the domestic passengers. With the headquarters in Dallas, Texas, it operates nearly 4000 flights a day. Looking back in history, it can be compared to the little old Texas airline from 1971. Although they were a different airline that first took to the skies, it is still very much the same company.

A little history
With the airline deregulation setting in, Southwest started planning to provide interstate service from Love Field. This led to a number of groups linked with Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport to press on the Wright Amendment through Congress so as to put restrictions on such flights. As a result, Southwest airlines as well as some other airlines were banned from operating. However, the Wright Amendment’s boundaries did not relate to aircraft with 56 or fewer seats.
In 1967, Herb Kelleher and Rollin King provided services in the state of Texas with Air Southwest Co. In 1971, Air Southwest Co. altered its name to Southwest Airlines Co and functioning from Dallas, the airlines began customer service in June 1971. The duo began their services with one basic notion and that was if you got your customers where they want and on time at low fares and ensure they have a good time while on air, you can be damn sure it will be flying with you every time. And they were absolutely right.
Today, it won’t be incorrect to say that Southwest Airlines is almost "middle-aged". Celebrating 40th anniversary this year, ti is a time to reflect on its past with pride while looking on to the future with new hopes.
Southwest Airlines is not just about planes, it is about the people it services. Following the golden rule of placing its customers first, always, it is no surprise to see the airline flying with great colors.
